D. Scott Batty, Jr., MD, CEO

Dr. Batty holds an MD from Tufts University in Boston, and trained as a multi-organ abdominal transplant surgeon at the Thomas E. Starzl Transplant Institute in Pittsburgh, PA.  Dr. Batty practiced in the Washington DC area for nearly 10 years at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, NIH, and Georgetown University Hospital where he served as Director of Liver Transplant until leaving clinical practice in 2003.  Dr. Batty then pursued a pharmaceutical career of increasing clinical and medical responsibilities at Enzon, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and most recently at Genzyme.  While at Bristol-Myers Squibb, Dr. Batty had global responsibility for medical affairs for a first-in-class immunosuppressive agent, as well as serving as medical affairs lead for the Phase 3 program.  Prior to the purchase of Genzyme by Sanofi, Dr. Batty held various roles over commercial and medical affairs functions, culminating as Vice-President of US Medical Affairs for a 7-product Transplant and Oncology portfolio.  Dr. Batty joined ImmunArray in September of 2011.


Eli Sahar, Ph.D., Co-Founder, EVP and CTO

Dr. Sahar holds a Ph.D. in Applied Physics from the Weizmann Institute of Science, and spent fifteen years conducting research and development of diagnostic methodologies at the Harvard Medical School and at Tel Aviv University. He co-founded ComBact Ltd., a company that developed rapid, fully automated systems for microbiological testing of urine, blood and other body fluids. Dr. Sahar has extensive experience in managing large, multidisciplinary research and development programs and brings an in-depth understanding of the clinical diagnostic market.

 

Irun Cohen, MD, Co-Founder and Senior Advisor

Irun Cohen, MD, Co-Founder and Senior Advisor Dr. Cohen is a Professor Emeritus at the Department of Immunology, the Weizmann Institute of Science. Dr. Cohen has served as Director at the European Collaboration on T-Cell Vaccination, Robert Koch-Minerva Center for Research in Autoimmune Diseases, Center for the Study of Emerging Diseases, Jerusalem; Executive Director, The National Center for T-cell Vaccination; and member of the Executive Committee of The National Center for Complexity Science. Dr. Cohen was awarded the German Robert Koch Prize, and was a recipient of the Dutch Boerhaave Professorship. He is a Highly Cited Researcher (ISI), with over 500 professional publications. He developed the concept of the immunological homunculus in the regulation of autoimmunity, a peptide vaccination therapy of Juvenile Diabetes, and co-developed the antigen microarray chip for bioinformatic analysis of immune system patterns.

 

Idan Tamir, Ph.D., VP of Business Development

Dr. Tamir holds a Bachelor degree in Chemistry from the Ben-Gurion University and Ph.D. degree in Chemical Immunology from the Weizmann Institute of Science. After spending four years as a Research Associate at National Jewish Hospital in Denver, Colorado, Dr. Tamir worked for QBI, a leading Israeli biotech company, as Head of the bioassays and Director of the chemistry units. Prior to joining ImmunArray, Dr. Tamir was the President and CEO of RAD BioMed, one of Israel's leading biotechnological and medical device accelerators, where he had extensive experience in project evaluation, technology in-licensing, business development, fund raising and other activities. During his tenure at RAD BioMed he started eighteen new companies, which collectively raised more than $15M from private investors.

 

Donna J. Edmonds, Active Chairperson

Ms. Edmonds has over 30 years experience in both the provider and the industry side of the healthcare business. Her primary focus has been in the introduction, management and commercialization of new and revolutionary technologies, primarily in critical care areas for patient care. She was Hospital Administrator (Director of Nursing) and General Manager of a specialty physician group prior to her recruitment to industry. Her industry experience includes eight years with Baxter International where she held executive positions in Business Development, Sales and Marketing. She initiated or participated in several start-ups, and took one company public. In addition, she was the Senior Vice President, Market and Business Development for the Cardiovascular Strategic Business Unit of Inverness Medical Innovations, a public company with over $500 million in revenues.

 

Patrick Arensdorf, Senior Advisor

Prior to joining Critical Diagnostics as Chief Executive Officer in 2010, Pat was Executive Vice President at Tethys Bioscience, a cardiometabolic diagnostics developer and CLIA lab. He was also involved in the start-ups of Intersect ENT and Simpirica Spine. During his involvement, these three companies raised over $100 million in venture capital; all have now either launched their products or entered their pivotal FDA clinical trials. Previously, Pat was CEO of First Medical, a diagnostics manufacturer of point-of-care cardiac diagnostics, taking the company through a restart, product launch, and acquisition by Sigma-Aldrich. His early career was in private equity and international M&A across various healthcare-related sectors, from surgical gloves to implantable defibrillators. Pat received his B.A. in molecular biology from Princeton University and his Masters as a Sloan Fellow from Stanford Graduate School of Business

 

Vered Daniel-Carmi, PhD , Head of Biological R&D

Dr. Daniel-Carmi joined ImmunArray in September 2011 as Head of Biological R&D. In this position, she is responsible for all biological R&D activities including target identification and validation, assay development and screening as well as responsibility for all lab personnel. Prior to that Dr. Daniel-Carmi was a senior researcher and lab manager of the Gynecologic Research laboratory at the Sheba Medical Center, Israel's largest, in which she lead clinically oriented translational cancer research and participated in advanced fertility preservation research. Dr. Daniel-Carmi holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Life Science from the Tel-Aviv University, Master of Science and PhD in Immunology from the Weizmann Institute of Science.
